The
Rev. Jack W. Sawyer has been the pastor of Pineville Presbyterian Church since January 1, 2000. Previously he has served pastorates
in New York and Mississippi. From 1984-1994 he served as a Pastor in the Reformed Churches of New Zealand. From 1980 -1984
he received the opportunity to serve as a deacon and then a ruling elder.
Originally a school teacher before being called
to the ministry, Mr. Sawyer has been an elementary, secondary and college teacher in Alabama, Mississippi, and New Zealand.
A native of Alabama,
he is a 1974 graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.S. degree in Secondary Education, majoring in history. Later he
was awarded two degrees from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Master of Arts in Religion(M.A.R.)
1980 ; and Master of Theology (Th.M) 1986.
Pastor Sawyer is the author of Moses and the Magistrate: Aspects of Calvin's
Political Theory in Contemporary Focus. He has contributions in the book Trust and Obey: A Forty Year History of the Reformed
Churches of New Zealand, and he is the author of a number of popular reviews and articles in religious periodicals in Australia,
New Zealand, and America.
Mr. Sawyer is currently serving as the chairman of the candidates and credentials committee
of the Presbytery of the South of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.
He has been married to his wife Carolyn (nee Snow) for 36 years, and they
are the parents of four children aged 18-25.
